Nourisi ®Polyanionic cellulose (PAC) polymer, is a high-purity, water-soluble anionic polymer derived from natural cellulose through a controlled chemical process of carboxymethylation. Engineered as a premium-grade additive for water-based drilling, completion, and workover fluids, it serves as a multifunctional agent for superior rheological control and filtration management in challenging downhole conditions.
Polyanionic cellulose (PAC) polymer is primarily characterized by its Degree of Substitution (DS)—the average number of carboxymethyl groups per glucose unit—and its molecular weight, which dictate its performance. It is commercially available in several standardized grades:
PAC-HV:High Viscosity
PAC-LV:Low Viscosity
PAC-R:Salt-Resistant / Regular

Nourisi ®Polyanionic cellulose (PAC) polymer is a versatile product used in oil drilling fields,
Mechanism: PAC-HV is particularly effective for increasing the Low-Shear-Rate Viscosity (LSRV) and gel strengths of the drilling fluid.
Benefit: This significantly improves the fluid's ability to suspend weighting agents (like barite) and drilled cuttings when circulation stops, preventing sag and settling. It also enhances cuttings transport in deviated, horizontal, and large-diameter well sections.
Mechanism: PAC polymers adsorb onto the surfaces of clays and reactive shales exposed in the wellbore.
Benefit: This forms a protective coating that inhibits water penetration and hydration, helping to prevent shale swelling, disintegration, and subsequent wellbore collapse. It is a key component in inhibitive water-based muds designed to replace oil-based muds in environmentally sensitive areas.
Mechanism: In completion and workover fluids, PAC-LV is used to achieve superb fluid loss control with very low solids content.
Benefit: It minimizes the invasion of liquid and fine solids into the producing formation, thereby preserving reservoir permeability and maximizing well productivity.
Mechanism: PAC (often LV or R grades) is sometimes used as a fluid loss additive in cement slurries.
Benefit: It helps control water loss from the slurry into the formation during placement, which is critical for ensuring a uniform cement column and achieving a good zonal isolation.
Nourisi ®Polyanionic cellulose (PAC) polymer exhibits extraordinary and useful properties:
Superior Filtration Control: PAC's primary function is to dramatically reduce fluid loss (API and HPHT) by forming a thin, low-permeability filter cake on the wellbore wall. This protects permeable formations and maintains wellbore stability.
Precise Rheology Modification: It efficiently increases the low-shear-rate viscosity (LSRV), yield point, and gel strengths of the fluid, significantly improving its hole-cleaning and suspension capabilities without causing excessive high-shear-rate viscosity that impedes pumping.
Shale Inhibition: By adsorbing onto clay surfaces, PAC helps inhibit the hydration and dispersion of water-sensitive shales, promoting a stable wellbore.
Tolerance to Contaminants: Especially in the case of PAC-R, it exhibits strong resistance to the flocculating effects of monovalent (Na⁺, K⁺) and divalent (Ca²⁺, Mg²⁺) ions, making it indispensable for complex fluids.
Thermal Stability: It performs reliably at elevated temperatures commonly encountered in drilling operations, with standard grades effective beyond 130°C (266°F).
Nourisi ®Polyanionic cellulose (PAC) polymer conforms to API 13A. However, we recommend that the user ensure that this product is in compliance with the local regulations in force, particularly in the country where the product is to be consumed.
